Home Builders Blitz
The Home Builders Blitz is a partnership between Habitat affiliates nationwide and professionals in the building industry to construct homes for low-income families across America. In 2008 we're kicking off the weeklong project on Saturday, May 31st. Habitat Charlotte plans to build at least 14 homes for 14 deserving families. This will Habitat Charlotte's third consecutive year participating in the build.
In June of 2007, Habitat Charlotte partnered with our area's leading home builders to build seven new houses for local, low-income families. Home builders Shea Homes, Scenic Homes, Lennar Homes, KB Home, Standard Pacific Homes, M/I Homes, and Centex Homes worked with their contractors and suppliers to build houses from start to finish in just one week. Standard Pacific Homes even built an entire home in just 18 hours! By leveraging the skills, expertise, and the kindness of local home building professionals, Habitat Charlotte was able to build decent, affordable housing at an unprecedented rate.
The Habitat Charlotte Home Builders Blitz has received special support from the Home Builders Association of Charlotte. Without the HBAC’s support, many of the participating builders may have been unaware of our newest building initiative. Prior to the event, builders attend monthly meetings and participate in team fund-raising activities. They're encouraged to be on site for the 5 days of the build and, in the most exciting part of the project, work closely with the homeowner families and involve them in the construction. Builders pay their contractors or suppliers, or obtain their services as a donation, enabling Habitat to offer a family a new home at no cost to the affiliate.
Habitat for Humanity is proud to have the support, talent and generosity of Charlotte’s leading home building professionals.
