Habitat charlotte Success stories

The Ksor Family8

When Weh Ksor arrived in Charlotte, N.C. as a refugee from Vietnam, Weh had one goal in mind; establishing himself and sending for his wife and two children. After working long hours and saving extensively for three years, Weh could finally afford to send for his loved ones. Although Weh was excited to have the entire family back together again, he wasn’t thrilled about the living arrangements the family would arrive to. But homeownership seemed impossible to afford considering the high cost of rent for a small apartment and other living expenses.

Weh’s disappointment in the family’s living arrangements would soon change. In early April 2006, Weh stayed after church to help with the yard work. While working on the church lawn a friend of his mentioned owning a new home; a dream he'd had for a long time. Weh’s curiosity was definitely peaked about owning a home with no down payment and zero interest. So he asked his friend for more details, and he told him to contact Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte.

After contacting Habitat Charlotte and attending an information session along with various other homeowner workshops, Weh and his family were approved to receive their very own home. Thanks to help from US Airways volunteers, Weh and his family were able to finish the construction on their home in February of 2007.  They moved into their house on March 10, and have loved the space and security of their new home.  Never one to be satisfied, Weh already has extensive plans for landscaping the house and adding a garden that his family can enjoy for years to come.
